World We Imagine Part 3

The Clean Ocean Corporation           Having lived in Orange County my whole life and within a close proximity to the beach, I have always somewhat taken the ocean for granted. Some of the fondest memories from my childhood are of walking down Balboa Island after a beach day, camping at San Onofre for the weekend, and even just going to the beach all summer with friends. The ocean, regardless of good times or bad times, has been there right beside me for as long as I can remember. But funny enough, it wasn't until I got to USC that I truly realized how much I missed at least seeing the water every day. It's a bit ironic that moving to Los Angeles made me notice this as there are many people who would say quite the opposite in that one of their main reasons for moving here are the Southern California beaches.      My greater understanding of this reality, after meeting many people from all over the place while at USC, combined with my passion...

World We Imagine Part 1

Making the World a Better Place I believe that my first step in making the world a better place would be to encourage people to listen better. I think that people in the world today love to talk and make their opinions heard but never bother to stop listen and think about what others have to say. With this in my mind, the first thing I plan to do is to force myself to listen better because I know that I am guilty of doing the same thing I just called out others for. This is how I believe regular people like you and I can truly make a difference in the world-- by acknowledging that we all have things to learn. In accepting this fact, our society can grow as a whole with better understanding that despite our different beliefs "all men are created equal" just as the excerpt says.  In my opinion, this phrase I just mentioned ("all men are created equal") is underrated by people today. Conflicting ideologies and political preferences have caused such a rift in our socie...

The Super Bowl... and How I Got Paid to Watch it It all started when a link got sent into the group chat for a club I'm apart of here at USC called the Sports Business Association. The link was sent by the SBA president who told us it was a job opportunity to work the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium. The job was not actually directly with the NFL but with a third party company called On Location that was hired by the NFL. I thought I might as well apply if there's a chance I'd get to be at the Super Bowl with the added bonus that I'd have something cool to put on my resume. There were a couple positions open so I applied for all of them and was lucky enough to get selected for their gameday "Teammate" position. This essentially meant my job was showing people where to go and taking them to different pre-game parties and events that On Location was in charge of operating. Once I got selected, the paperwork process was much more intense than I imagined for such a si...

Road Out of Winter #2 This book is interesting to say the least. It begins in Appalachian Ohio with the main character Wylodine. She is stuck in an ongoing winter that began roughly two years ago and has been living alone for half that time after her mother and her mother's boyfriend, Lobo, left for California. When Wylodine and her mother moved in with Lobo a number of years before the story takes place, they joined his operation of illegally growing and selling weed at his farm on the outskirts of the town. As a result of this, Wylodine is constantly berated by people in the community with questions, comments, and requests about her family business which she dreads more than anything else. Another interesting part about the story's background is Wylodine's best friend, Lisbeth, who is part of a cult-like organization referred to as "The Church." One day The Church decides to just get up and leave town completely heading south and taking half the population in to...

Road Out of Winter After looking at the list of books on the syllabus, I was left torn between two options: Road Out of Winter and The Intuitionist . Both descriptions intrigued me and I couldn't choose, so I decided to read the first couple pages of each and ended up liking Road Out of Winter better. The only reason that I liked it more than the other book was simply just because I got hooked by the introduction. It seemed sort of weird and had an ominous start that compelled me to find out more. I am excited to see where the story goes next and how the main character, Wylodine, will overcome the adversity she faces. That is what I am hoping to see at least-- a good tale of perseverance. I have always been a fan of stories where the antagonist beats the odds and I believe this book might be just that. I honestly have not read much of the book, but so far, I am happy with my choice. The concept of an everlasting winter is one of the things that drew me in as I read the summaries...

Bonsai Trees My introduction to these plants and some background about them The first time I remember really noticing a bonsai tree was when I was a child watching the original "Karate Kid." I was and still am a big fan of the film, but to my point, bonsai trees make several pretty noticeable cameos throughout the course of the movie. After seeing them there, I was somewhat intrigued by the plants but didn't really know much about them. I obviously knew that they were little trees in pots often kept inside but that was about the extent of my knowledge for many years. I would sometimes see them on social media and in other films but my interest was not truly peaked until I saw a particular post about a bonsai tree being one thousand years old. I looked further on social media jumping from account to account just going down the rabbit hole of Instagram's "for you" page, and next thing I knew I was hooked by these ancient, little plants. This happened about tw...
