World We Imagine Part 3
The Clean Ocean Corporation
Having lived in Orange County my whole life and within a close proximity to the beach, I have always somewhat taken the ocean for granted. Some of the fondest memories from my childhood are of walking down Balboa Island after a beach day, camping at San Onofre for the weekend, and even just going to the beach all summer with friends. The ocean, regardless of good times or bad times, has been there right beside me for as long as I can remember. But funny enough, it wasn't until I got to USC that I truly realized how much I missed at least seeing the water every day. It's a bit ironic that moving to Los Angeles made me notice this as there are many people who would say quite the opposite in that one of their main reasons for moving here are the Southern California beaches.
My greater understanding of this reality, after meeting many people from all over the place while at USC, combined with my passion for the sea made me really appreciate my experiences on a new level. In thinking about the ocean a lot, I started to wonder how I could give back to the thing that has brought me so much joy in my life and then it dawned on me. I thought of my time in high school which was private and required each student to do community service hours that led me to my first of many beach clean-ups throughout my four years there. I found that I enjoyed these clean-ups much more than any other service activity I did and would sign up for them as often as I could. Taking inspiration from these clean-ups, the business I propose to make the world a better place is the Clean Ocean Corporation.
At COC, our plan would be to empower people, especially younger generations, to respect the ocean and keep it clean for everyone to enjoy for years to come. We would initially do this through events like sponsored beach clean-ups starting in Orange County but expanding wherever else we can get people interested. In addition to beach clean-ups and things like natural wildlife planting, we want to have informational sessions for both kids and adults to learn about the ocean environment and the different ways we can help it. We would like to make these sessions entertaining and a lot more enticing by having them be small adventures in or by the sea such as going out on boats, traveling places like Catalina Island, or visiting distant beaches. By providing a wealth of knowledge in the subject, we hope to show people that the ocean is a marvelous place worthy of our care.
I believe you should invest in the Clean Ocean Corps because like everybody says the younger generation decides what happens next, and that is why they are the focus of our company. The idea behind this all is that, if we can persuade the next generation of people to truly care for the ocean as well as the environment in general and work to preserve it, then the world will be a much better place. In teaching these kids about how important the ocean is to all walks of life around the world and showing them a little fun while they learn, we hope to make a lasting impact that will transcend multiple generations as these kids grown into parents and pass their knowledge down.
