Who You Are Matters

Intro

Hello, my name is Jack, and I am from Orange County, specifically Newport Beach, California. I am going to work in the sports business industry one day... hopefully. For now, though, I am going to the mountains and making the best of online classes. I plan to get into sports business through an internship this summer; a couple of the top companies I have had my eye on are Fox Sports and the Los Angeles Dodgers largely because my dad was a previous employee of Fox Sports, and I have been a Dodger fan my entire life. As for getting to the mountains, I have already made plans for going up to Mammoth this weekend.

I believe I am like my parents in many ways, but one of the most noticeable, in my opinion, is my passion for baseball. Both my parents have been fans of the sport for years and it certainly made a large impact on the lives of me and my two brothers. I believe I am unlike my parents through my non-stop style of life. While my parents do enjoy their fun, they are definitely big fans of rest and relaxation when they can get it. For me on the other hand, even on my "off-days" I am always doing something.

Reflection

I believe I have developed my own expectations for myself because I am pursuing a path that makes me happy. For a while, I wondered if I should attend law school like my parents or get a job in real estate like my brother, but I realized that through sports business I can both enjoy what I do and make a successful career for myself. Besides a relative, Iron Man is a role model I look up to because of his great desire to help people and the selfless responsibility he exemplified when sacrificing himself to save the universe.

Connection

If I had to pick a wild animal, I feel like I have a special connection with penguins because I enjoy being in the snow, and they seem pretty easy going which is how I like to think of myself also. Looking back at my childhood, one specific memory I have of a tree was building a swing for the big tree in the park of my neighborhood with my friends. I remember buying the wood, rope, and paint; building it; and being proud of our masterpiece for the years it hung up there.

  1. Hi Jack, I really liked reading your blog! I really related to you when you said you have a non-stop lifestyle. I feel that way about myself in that I always like to be doing something. I also really liked how you chose Iron Man as your role model and how you wrote that he has selfless responsibility. I definitely think more people need to be like that, especially in our generation.

  2. Hi Jack, great blog post. I too am a big baseball fan (CWS over the Cubs everyday) and my roommates hate that I take up the living room watching it on tv for 4 hours. Ive never heard of someone choosing a penguin as their animal to relate to but I like it and it is a very unique choice. You say you like snow and that you are going up to Mammoth, are you a skier? snowboarder?

  3. Hey Jack, Great reading your blog post! Thought it was super cool on how you don't treat off-days as true off-days. I have a similar style and I could really relate to that. Dig the mountain picture as I've been tryin g to get back into skiing haven't been since before covid and really miss it. Can't say I'm a huge dogers fan but I admire your passion for sports.

  4. Hello Jack,

I like your responses for connections. Penguins have always been one of my favorite animals too, although I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of the snow. I also think it was really cool that you and your friends could have that experience of working together to build the swing. It's awesome that you built something that was there for years.

  5. Hey Jack,

Nice blog post! I am also a Marvel fan, so I love Iron Man as well! However, I am #teamcaptainamerica. Iron Man is pretty cool, but I think he's a little conceited. It's also really cool how you're in the mountains right now. I hope you have a great time.

    Best,
    Brooke
